...The what?
[what was that word coming out of your mouth, small....bird child]
[Hot Pants squints up at the thing.]
Sure. How did it even get up there?

...Okay. Meteion.
[WEIRD NAMES BUT SURE.]
[...She's glancing up, and moving to climb up the tree.]
Is it your pet?

[BE NAMED AFTER A JAMES BROWN SONG LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE]
....Like you? Created by who?
[She makes quick progress up the tree, though she is wincing a little as she goes - and a little huff as she reaches to nab it. Hey there, buddy.]

[uncultured...]
I see. [She's putting the ambystoma on her shoulder so she can have both hands to climb down.] Unfortunately, it does seem like a lot of us left people behind.

[Hey baby girl!! Hot Pants is glancing down at her, furrowing her eyebrows at the one in her hands.]
...Can you read them?
...Can you read them?
I find it alright. Most of the time I don't have enough time to do it, though.
[Another glance at her book.]
That one looks scary. Are you sure you want to read it?

[Yeah, after all of that, she's going to search out Meteion. Wherever she is...she'll beeline to her.]
Hey. Talk to me. Do you need anything?

[Hmmm.]
...Well, the title of that book means something, you know. And given that looks like a scary book...I don't think they mean good wishes.

Are you sure?
[And...well, what a question that is.]
This place seems like it wants to...use us. I don't think Kazuma is a bad person at all. But something here wanted him to act like one.

[HMMM]
That's a good question. I think...part of it is that it helps people understand the feeling of it. The things in those books aren't real, and can't hurt you. It gives you a safe way to address fear.
It's why sometimes kids are read scary stories. Not because parents want to scare them, but because sometimes it helps them be prepared if they ever face something actually real and scary later.

[Hmmm.]
I think that's part of it, perhaps. The murder mystery may have given it an idea like that. But I think there are some things here that suggest that this place enjoys what it's doing. Which is very bad, indeed, if it likes making us scared.

Oh, hello, Meteion.
[She's definitely in the process of planting! Gardening gloves and soil and pots and all.]
Yes, I am. Are you here to do some gardening, too?
